K2 Looking for Service Dog Foster Parents and Program Volunteers

A great foster family can help shape a great Service Dog. By opening up your heart and home to foster a dog, you will provide the loving foundation every Service Dog needs to help someone who needs help the most. Every dog that becomes a successful Service Dog must be well socialized and tolerant to all sorts of experiences. Think about the distractions of a crowded city street, a loud restaurant or a park full of laughing children. To serve a person with physical or emotional limitations, a Service Dog needs to be secure, patient and composed when confronted by strange noises, new faces and unexpected situations.

Before you can be considered as a Foster Parent or Program Volunteer, you must first fill our our Foster Volunteer Application. Our Volunteer Coordinator, will then get in touch with you to arrange for an in-person meeting, and later, a home inspection. Once approved, we will schedule a visit to the K2 Canine Training center so we can pair you with just the right dog.

Service DogTraining-522Before you apply, be prepared for how a Service Dog will change your life. You’ll go for long walks; you’ll play in the park; you’ll carry a lint roller wherever you go; you’ll fall in love with a dog – maybe for the first time, and then you’ll have to say goodbye. Most of all, you’ll gain the satisfaction of knowing you’ve helped someone lead a better, fuller and happier life.
